How to Install WiFi Tether App and Turn your Samsung Vibrant into a Mobile Hotspot!
UPDATE: This method DOES NOT WORK (YET), but here’s how to USB Tether your Samsung Vibrant without rooting!
For those of you who want free wifi tethering on your Samsung Vibrant or any other Samsung Galaxy S smartphone (Samsung Captivate, Samsung Fascinate, and Samsung Epic 4G too), you can easily install the Android WiFi Tether app after you root your phone.
First, root your Samsung Vibrant or Galaxy S phone.
Next, browse to Android WiFi Tether download page here.
Then download the latest .apk file for Android WiFi Tether.
Open it up and install it.
Launch the app, setup your new Samsung Vibrant Mobile Hotspot and enjoy free wifi tethering for life.
And also tell your friends about SamsungVibrantHacks.com!
UPDATE: It seems that Android WiFi Tether is not supported (yet) because we need a re-compile the kernel with support for iptables, working on it, please check back!

How is the battery on this phone compared to the DroidX and HTC EVO?
July 15th, 2010 at 7:47 pm
I rooted my Vibrant and installed this as well but it gives me an error saying “Unable to start tethering please try again”
I have no idea why
July 16th, 2010 at 10:22 am
hmmm . . .
everything went smooth as silk – however, my PC doesn’t see the mobile network.
Checked the “show log” – very first item shows this:
Unkown device-type. Your device is not supported!… done
Then it enables NAT, IP forwarding and “Tethering now running…
Any ideas? I turned off encryption, etc., so it should be visible. Help!

Thanks with regard to the information, I am really looking forward to the Samsung Epic 4G, despite the fact that I have always been very curious in gadgets, for a long time I have been researching for my 1st smartphone and I did not acquire it yet. The explanations are really simple: each and every several of months there is a revolution in the industry (tough to consider!) and prices here in Brazil are quite abusive. Maybe I would enter this world in fantastic style with a Samsung Epic 4G. I hope so.

Already been engaged in mobile communications as an RF engineer since 1982 when I worked for Motorola. Had Blackberrys for the last eight years or so, but just pre purchased a Samsung Vibrant through Tmobile. Want a few new capabilities as well as a brand new Operating system to play with. I’m dissatisfied that T-mobile has switched away from the wi-fi compatability hotspot feature in the Samsung Vibrant, but I am certain someone will figure out how to root it and add the feature back again in. I’m now carrying a wifi only iPad and want to wirelessly tether it to the cellular phone. Looking forward to obtaining my new phone!
July 16th, 2010 at 6:24 pm
It will install, but it won’t run properly. It doesn’t create the WiFi connection at the least.
July 16th, 2010 at 7:02 pm
Watbetch is 100% correct, the app installs fine, and you can start tethering, but no network is actually created nor broadcast. We will need a modified kernel most likely for this to work. One that enables the correct IPTables, etc
July 17th, 2010 at 12:26 am
Did you test this or just assume it would work? It doesn’t do any good to have a tethering app that doesn’t actually work.
July 17th, 2010 at 1:55 pm
ONce its installed and running , how do you connect to it from a PC?
July 17th, 2010 at 2:48 pm
Great info, I’m a guy through Detroit who is about to get his very first real dive in to the Google android, figuring it’s best obtained by getting the Samsung Fascinate. It’s been a long delay, including ordering a HTC Desire and cancelling that due to receiving information regarding this phone, as well as in my small search regarding info to move the time I ultimately found this wonderful site.

I know the Samsung Captivate isn’t released yet, but it’s pretty much the Galaxy S. I’ve convinced a friend to get an android phone after he used my rooted Droid. He’s planning on getting the Captivate, but it seems it might be a deal breaker for him if he can’t tether. Can anyone confirm that this will work with the Captivate?
July 17th, 2010 at 7:33 pm
How about actually testing before posting that it works.. Yes it installs, but no it does not work properly…
July 17th, 2010 at 7:50 pm
I dont think this is working. I install the app and it shows working but it is not actually broadcasting. my pc does not detect wifi connection
July 17th, 2010 at 8:01 pm
It doesn’t work at the moment.. The device isn’t supported by the Dev yet.. check the log, you’ll see it says “unkown [sic] device-type. Your device is not supported!…” The author didn’t actually test before posting

On my Samsung Captivate i keep getting :
Cannot finish download .There is not enough space
The phone is completely empty and I can download apps from the market w/no errors

August 7th, 2010 at 5:51 pm
can you tether an ipod touch to your vibrant using this method?
would you have to jailbreak it first?
August 23rd, 2010 at 10:54 am
So Is this working or not? I bought an HTC HD2 specifically for it’s Wifi hotspot capabilities, but it’s too glitchy for me. The T-mobile Vibrant is the next option, but if the Wifi Hotspot broadcasting doesn’t work, then I might as well go back to my Blackberry 8120. The last few posts say it works, are you using T-mobile?
August 26th, 2010 at 9:18 pm
i am using it on my tmobile vibrant and yes it works on my laptop, but not on my psp,ps3,or my ipod touch.also tried the bluetooth to psp go and would not hold the connection. dont know what im doing wrong. any help would be awesome.

( Samsung Vibrant to IPAD wifi tether ) After Rooting the phone, I found that Barnacle (new version) doesn’t work, but when I loaded Barnacle “Legacy” everything worked perfectly. Side note, the WEP, has to be either 5 or 13 symbols (letters) and that also worked just fine. I was able to tether my IPAD to the Vibrant, perfectly.

I downloaded the bloatware from Samsung only to find out it had bus up it’s wazoo . I already had PDAnet installed and it works very well. I get around 2mb down and 0.4mb at speedtest.net for 90045 Los Angeles. If you just need to tether, use PDAnet.

Today, while I was at work, my sister stole my iphone and tested to see if it can survive a 30 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now destroyed and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it with someone!

If you read this article than most likely you have exactly the same issue i had, enormous hair loss. This might be caused by stress, just a hormonal dilemma or numerous other factors. There can be a lot of causes for a massive hair loss even if you are a ladies ( this can also be more embarrassing ) . When initial i saw that my hair begins falling i wasn’t impressed at all and just ignored the truth… what a mistake. Sooner you begin the treatment, the better! Do not hesitate and do not lose far more time or you may end up with no hair at all in few years.
